Hatch, Match & Dispatch – Nov 2020

Here we are again with a super-streamlined version of Hatch, Match and Dispatch, readers! Just pure data, almost no filler! (See also Oct 2019, Nov 2019, Dec 2019, Jan 2020, Feb 2020, Mar 2020, Apr 2020, May 2020, Jun 2020, Jul 2020, Aug 2020, Sep 2020 and Oct 2020.)

Standard disclaimer: unless I decide otherwise, these are only the “big” anniversaries (25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 60, 70, 75, 80, 90 & 100+ years); dates are cover-dates where known; monthly comics with no confirmed day of launch default to the start of the month; and this list is accurate only to the best of my knowledge, so do please let me know of any important errors or omissions!

Update 20201027: The great Rob Kirby has kindly supplied some corrections to my errant data! First, the Marvel UK X-Men comic (pictured on the right) that I believed had ended with issue #14 in November 1995 actually carried on until issue #34 in January 1996, so I’ve removed the entry from this list (but check back in January 2021!).

Second: Rob’s informed me that, contrary to my beliefs, the comic launched in November 1995 as Spectacular Spider-Man Adventures is still in print, albeit following several name-changes. It’s now simply called Spider-Man and at the time of writing is on issue #383! See the entry below for more details.

  1. Strip was so great. Sure, it started to fall apart around the time they started reprinting Punisher stories, but Grimtoad, Storm, Man from Cancer, Death’s Head, and of course Marshal Law with O’Neill’s glorious artwork blown up to UK A4 size. Fabulous.

And (as per the previous commenter), a chronic shame Grimtoad never continued – Ian Gibson’s art in that was, in my opinion, some of the very best UK comic strip art anywhere, ever.
